Held at the European-style Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont, this is the only time you’ll attend an Oktoberfest owned by the famous family of singers. Trapp Family Oktoberfest is a one-day event held at the von Trapp Brewing Bierhall. Entry to the family-friendly event includes lager or root beer in a commemorative mug, plus an appetizer and entrée for guests 13 and older (guests 12 and under get a root beer in a commemorative mug and an appetizer like pretzels with beer cheese dip, bratwurst with house mustards, and potato pancake with horseradish applesauce). The 13th annual Trapp Family Oktoberfest event is September 17, 2022. Fall is also the best time to visit Vermont if you want to see the Northeast’s famous fall foliage, so come for Oktoberfest, and stay for the autumn vibes.

The 13th annual Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival on September 25, 2022 is a family-friendly pumpkin tossing competition in Stowe that also includes a chili cook-off, live music, and kids’ activities. Teams use homemade trébuchets, or catapults, to see how far they can hurl pumpkins. Held at Stoweflake Mountain Resort, the Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival raises funds for the Clarina Howard Nichols Center, which aims to end domestic and sexual violence in Lamoille County.

Folks are always asking when to visit Vermont. And the answer is beyond simple — it’s leaf peeping season. This short window of time between mid-September and mid-October reveals a stunning version of New England painted yellow, red and orange. Your best chances for spotting color in one of the most colorful places on Earth are to “get high” (elevations with panoramic views) or “get low” (valleys near marshy waters where trees are their most vibrant).
