Hạ Long Bay

A UNESCO World Heritage site in Vietnam renowned for its emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands topped with rainforests.

Tips from the community

Get the sharpie ready – you’re about to shorten that bucket list because this is one of the best things to do in Vietnam! Yep, the gasp-inducing Ha Long Bay is the sort of place you’ll be talking about for years to come, much to the irritation of home friends. It stretches over a whopping 1,500 square kilometers in the South China Sea, unfolding in a series of craggy hoodoos, grottoes, colossal cliffs, and islets for as far as the eye can see. A popular way to explore the UNESCO site is on a traditional junk boat or by private plane for an other-worldly birds eye view.

If you Google image search Vietnam, you’re definitely going to see Ha Long Bay. Although a victim to excessive commercialized tourism, you’d be remiss to visit Vietnam without seeing this iconic, maze-like labyrinth on water. Tour boats are the only way to see it, but it’s possible to escape some of the crowds by heading to Cát Bà Island where you can find a bird’s eye view of the whole bay. Despite all of the selfie sticks, it’s still worth it.

Hạ Long Bay in northeast Vietnam is known for being one of the best things to do in Vietnam with crisp emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands topped by rainforests. Hop in a junk boat or kayak and cruise aimlessly amongst the endless maze of floating villages and markets.
