One of the best things to do in New Mexico is to visit Taos in Northern New Mexico. Drive the 105-mile scenic byway—the High Road to Taos— which spans all the way from Santa Fe to Taos. The tiny underrated US city has many points of interest, including Taos Pueblo: the only active Native American community designated both a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a National Historic Landmark. Try rafting in the Rio Grande, tiptoeing across the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, or visiting Taos’ 600-acre Earthship Community.

We snagged a casita between Santa Fe & Taos and plan to hit all the best hikes within reach.
